Sony Develops A Device Like Google Glass

Recent reports appear to show that Sony is trying to get itself into the wearable devices market. Although still unclear, it seems that Sony is eager to take a shot to glory after they have announced their newest gadget in the form of a small device that can be clipped into a pair of spectacles.

The concept of Sony's new device is based on a design revolutionized by Google's own wearable device, the Google Glass. Since its release in the market, Google Glass has been gaining a slow but strong following. On the other hand, Sony is making headlines in the tech community when they unveiled their own wearable device. They device is known only as the "SmartEyeglass Attach." Although still in its development stage, the prototype is reported to contain a camera and a tiny 640x400 OLED display screen, Sony claims that it can project images even under very bright lights or even in dark rooms. The small device will run on an ARM Cortex-A7 processor with 400mAh battery. It is still a big mystery as to how Sony managed to put all this hardware together in just a 40 gram device.

The device which can be attached to a pair of sunglasses or spectacles can be connected to other device such a smartphones and tablets through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.  Based on official specs released by Sony, the biggest advantage of their clip-on device is its ability to be detached from a pair of spectacles when not in use thus downgrading the hassle of carrying it every time. A milestone achievement compared to Google Glass where-in most people find it off-putting. According to official statements from Sony, additional features will be presented in the days to come.

Sony will unveil this device in the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this coming Jan 6 to 9.
