Biological Bad Luck Cancer? Malignant Tumors May Be More Bad Luck Than Bad Behavior, Study Suggests

Over decades, different health specialists across the world have turned their heads to the treatment and even possible cure for cancer, all the while warning citizens about the dangers of certain foods or behaviors - but a new study shows that there may be a bigger biological bad luck cancer factor than previously thought.

It seems that biological bad luck cancer is a considerably bigger factor than the way patients lead their lives, whether it's about their diet, exercise regime or any other aspect - developing cancer may have a lot to do with just random mutations.

According to Science Daily, the new discovery regarding biological bad luck cancer was recently published in Science journal. It was a research developed by the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, on a scientific paper entitled "Variation in cancer risk among tissues can be explained by the number of stem cell divisions."

In the study, it is proposed that biological bad luck is cancer's biggest friend, according to BloombergF. The research paper (which was conducted, interestingly enough, by a geneticist and a mathematician), created a formula that plotted the numbers of the divisions of stem cells over against the risk of cancer, finding a strong correlation that explained two-thirds of cases, without taking into account any other scenarios like eating habits or exposure to any one chemic.

The research paper was based on cancer statistics that had been published in the past. According to Time Magazine, they examined 31 types of cancer, finding that, from those, 22 actually developed from unavoidable stem cell mutations, without any further risk based on the lifestyles of patients.

It was found that the biological bad luck cancers included ovarian, pancreatic, brain, bone and testicular cancer, as well as leukemia. However, the authors of the study stated that this wasn't an invitation to follow an unhealthy life; rather that there were certain types of cancer that cannot be avoided this way.
