Nuts Nutrition: Daily Nuts Intake Makes You Live Longer AND Prevents Cancer!

These days, studies on diets have become focused on finding "miracle foods" that can improve life through various fronts, with fruits like avocados and blueberries often being called the next major breakthrough in healthy eating - but now nuts' nutrition ingredients are making a great case to gobble on almonds, walnuts, peanuts and the like.

A few recent studies on nuts' nutrition values have revealed some of these fruits' benefits, including an important decrease in early mortality in adults, as well as treatment of certain chronic diseases and even cancer prevention.

According to Science Daily, the latest nuts nutrition discovery came from the Oxford University Press, in a study published earlier this month on the International Journal of Epidemiology under the name "Relationship of tree nut, peanut, and peanut butter intake with total and cause-specific mortality: a cohort study and meta-analysis."

In the nuts nutrition study, it was found that lower mortality risks happened mostly for respiratory and neurodegenerative diseases, as well as diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular diseases, both in men and women.

In total, the average on lower risk mortality within 10 years was 23 percent, varying according to the condition: it was 45 percent for neurodegenerative disease, 39 percent for respiratory and 30 percent for diabetes.

However, BBC reports that the nuts nutrition benefits only apply to actual nuts, but not peanut butter, as it's high in trans fats and salt.

Eureka Alert reports on yet another staggering discovery on these fruits: researchers from the University of Minnesota and the Mayo Clinic in the same state analyzed 36 observational studies (with over 30,700 patients) on the preventive powers of nuts, and it was found that regular consumption was associated with risk of several cancers such as colorectal, endometrial and pancreatic one - though, unfortunately, this wasn't associated with all types nor type 2 diabetes.

In any case, it's time to add nuts' nutrition values to the everyday diet!
