Guardians of the Galaxy Director James Gunn Says Ant Man Is Best Marvel Film since Iron Man

It seems like Phase 3 of Marvel's cinematic universe is set to kick off with a bang. James Gunn director of Guardians of the Galaxy, one of the MCU's biggest phase 2 successes, has taken to his Facebook page to post a glowing review for Ant Man, the latest addition to Marvel's gallery of heroes.

"Ant-Man may just be my favorite Marvel film since Jon Favreau's Iron Man (well, maybe excluding one film to which I'm partial). Honestly, the movie is a complete blast! I was so happy after seeing it. It's never boring for a second and it's hilarious and warm throughout."

Gunn also praised the performances of Michael Pena, Michael Douglas as well  as his old friend Judy Greer saying:

"Michael Peña KILLS IT - this movie is going to make him a huge star. My old pal Judy Greer (she was Deadly Girl to my Minute Man in The Specials (film) many moons ago) is great in a small role. And Michael Douglas is awesome."

He closes by acknowleding British director Edgar Wright, who has long linked to the project. Gunn said that despite his untimely exit from the project, his presence and influence is still very much felt in the film:

"And, despite Edgar Wright's parting from Marvel, his spirit is felt through the entire project, and there is no doubt everyone owes him a huge debt of gratitude."

Ant Man, which stars actor Paul Rudd as the diminutive hero, has been through a rocky development process. Edgar Wright, who was long attached to direct the film, dropped out at the last minute due to creative differences with the studio. The film's first trailer also underwherlmed fans. This led many to believe the movie was in trouble, but from the looks of Gunn's review, it seems like last minute replacement director Peyton Reed has delivered.

Rudd will be joined by Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym, Corey Stoll as Yellow Jacket, and Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne. The film opens in theatres everywhere on July 17.
