Buy A Blizzard, Save A Child; Dairy Queen Restaurants Raises Funds For Children's Hospitals

With several local Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill restaurants throughout the United States celebrating the 10th Annual Miracle Treat Day on July 30, multiple Children's Miracle Network Hospitals will be benefiting from the sales of the stores.

Not only will DQ ice cream lovers satisfy their craving for their favorite treat, buying a blizzard will also help save a child's life.

Each Blizzard Treat that DQ participating locations sell, $1 or more will be donated to their corresponding hospital. In central Illinois, each Blizzard sold will benefit the St. John's Children's Hospital in Springfield, reported WAND TV.

To date, Oreo remains the "Blizzard Treat of the Day" for the Miracle Treat Day.

All donations given to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals will benefit the children as the funds support research and training, buy essential needed medical equipment and supplies, comfort items, pay for uncompensated care, as well as assist in funding of Child Life Specialist programs. All efforts are part of the group's mission to save and improve as many children's lives as possible.

Other hospitals under the Children's Miracle Network is the Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield and Batson Children's Hospital.

In North America, one in 10 children are treated at a CMN Hospital each year, according to the Press Examiner.

Tangela Tadley, a mother with a child treated at Batson, told WJTV 12 how the hospital which is under Children's Miracle Network has helped save the life of her daughter.

"Be thankful you're not going through this. All's it takes is one MRI to destroy your world," Tadley said.

Batson is the only Children's Miracle Network hospital in Mississippi. Last year, Miracle Treat Day was able to raise over $12,000 for the hospital, according to WJTV 12.

Dairy Queen officials said the initiative has raised more than $100 million for the hospitals over the last 31 years, with different programs including Miracle Treat Day, the Miracle Balloon campaign, and others.
