Giselle Knowles-Carter or better known as Beyonce, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress born and raised in Houston, Texas. The flawless singer is unmatched when it comes to performing live concerts so there is no doubt that the superstar Beyonce is rumored to be starring in NBC's live production of The Wiz.
The 33 year old Beyonce, has been in talks with producers to play Glinda the good witch in the forthcoming live musical 'The Wiz.' Other reports said that the former Destiny's Child member has already been offered the role.
However, some reports claim that the network is also considering Uzo Aduba (who plays Crazy Eyes in the Netflix series) to play the same character. The American actress, Uzo Aduba got the showrunners of the 'The Wiz' impressed by her previous Broadway credits which includes being part of the reboot of Godspell from 2011 to 2012.
Beyonce will carry on the tradition of Grammy-winning jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, who had taken on the role before her on Broadway in 1975 that is if the singer Beyonce will sign up to play Glinda. Back in the 1978 movie, Grammy award winner, Lena Horne took to portray the role. But Beyonce can also relate to her predecessors, as the singer has got 20 Grammys under her belt and Beyonce got a recognition as the most nominated female singer in history.
Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige has already signed to join NBC's latest live musical adaptation where Blige is set to play the Wicked Witch of the West and Queen Latifah will play the titular Wiz, who holds the keys to the Emerald City.
The Wiz Live! Executive producers are Craig Zadan and Neil Meron - both producers made NBC's previously high-wire musical telecasts, 2013's The Sound of Music Live! and last year's Peter Pan Live!
Executive producers Zadan and Meron stated, "We are so happy reuniting with Latifah," Zadan and Meron also said, "We've been friends for a long time and we've had quite a lot of success together. To see her play the iconic role of the Wiz and make it her own is going to be one of the joys of producing this event."
