'Peaky Blinders' Update: Cillian Murphy And Steven Knight Speak About Tom Hardy's Return And What To Expect In Season 3

BBC has constantly been churning out surprise hits over the last few years, and 'Peaky Blinders' has been quietly growing a massive following that simply cannot wait until the third season finally airs.

For the uninitiated, 'Peaky Blinders' is about the historic Peaky Blinders gang led by Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy), who once terrorized Birmingham after the First World War. The gang was given their name due to their tendency to hide razors into the peaks of their hats.

The first season was a success, and even Season Two added new characters including Alfie Solomons, who is played by 'Mad Max: Fury Road' star Tom Hardy.

'Peaky Blinders' showrunner Steven Knight and star Cillian Murphy recently spoke to Deadline on whether Tom Hardy will return and what's in store for Tommy Shelby in Season Three.

"Yes, Tom is coming back," Knight confirmed about Tom Hardy's highly awaited return to 'Peaky Blinders.'

He also added that there will be exciting new characters in Season Three.

"We have new big roles that are written and have enormous interest from really good people," Knight admitted. "We're hoping to land some good names. The response from everyone and people in the business has been unbelievably good, so we're in a good place for approaching people who wouldn't normally do this sort of thing."

Cillian Murphy spoke about how the show managed to land a major actor like Tom Hardy and what it was like teaming up with the 'Mad Max: Fury Road' star.

"I think it is a tribute to the show and the writing that it can attract the caliber of actor like Tom Hardy," he said. "It was great to catch up with him and work with him again, he and I are pals of old and obviously he has worked closely with Steve Knight so it very much kept the family vibe of the show going. Hopefully in season 3 we will be introducing some new characters again through some exciting new actors."

Steven Knight was asked about the issue between Tommy, May (Charlotte Riley) and Grace (Annabelle Wallis) that was unresolved in the second season. "Yes, that is going to get resolved in the opening set-up," Knight said.

'Peaky Blinders' will return to BBC Two and Netflix next year.
