Beer Jelly: Nutella Spread Too Mainstream For You? Spreadable Beer Is Here, And May Be New Foodie Trend

For those who have based a good portion of their lives on the idea that alcohol shouldn't be consumed before noon, the latest beer jelly release should shake their whole world, as a company in Vermont has just released a series of spreads based on different flavors of this popular beverage.

While the most curious can actually find beer jelly on different sections of Etsy, Potlicker Kitchen's may be the first line to come out of a larger company, as they offer some of the more popular flavors of craft beer including Indian Pale Ale (IPA), apricot ale and stout.

According to Bloomberg, this beer jelly is boiled with sugar and pectin and then ends up getting set in a jar for ultimate consumption, and they even recommend what items to pair their different spreads with.

For example, The Drinks Business reports that this Vermont beer jelly maker recommends consuming the dark brown stout with brie and figs, describing it as "heady with roasted, yeasty flavors and a lot fruitier than you'd expect."

On the other hand, the company's IPA jelly works best when paired up with soft cheeses due to its "grapefruit and tropical fruit" notes, while the apricot ale tastes the best with dark chocolate due to its "zing."

According to The Telegraph, after years of dominance of spreads such as Nutella, it may be time for beer jelly to have its day on the sun, as the United Kingdom is also boasting a new brand of more mainstream jellies of this type, as national flagship department store Selfridges is selling Birra Spalmabile, a brand of beer spread described as "an ingenious collaboration between an Italian chocolate maker and an Italian beer brewer."

In case you're wondering how you can consume beer jelly, it's a great topping for crackers - and, by the way, it actually has no alcohol!
