McDonald's workers in many countries are usually pegged as pock-faced teenagers. However, this isn't the case in Taiwan where a fast food restaurant employee by the name of Wei Han Xu, has been dubbed the "McDonald's goddess." In recent days, not only has Wei attracted the attention of Taiwanese fans, but also web users worldwide.
According to Shanghaiist, it is common for female staff members at McDonald's restaurants in Taiwan to show up for work wearing cosplay such as maids' outfits, sailor and cheerleader uniforms. They have been doing this since 2013.
RocketNews24 reported that Wei Han Xu, also known as Weiwei or Haitun meaning "dolphin" in Chinese, is a college student who has been working part-time at McDonald's for five years. Wei was apparently named the McDonald's goddess because of her doll-like features.
Wei's rise to fame took place after blogger RainDog took photos of Wei and uploaded them on the internet, according to Food Beast. RainDog called her the "cutest McDonald's goddess in Taiwanese history," and the rest, as they say, is history.
The McDonald's outlet where Wei works at is reportedly located along the Jianguo South Road in Da'an District, Taipei City, Taiwan. Smitten with Weiwei's huge eyes and sweet disposition, a frenzy of netizen fans reportedly flocked to the outlet where Wei works.
With Wei's photos going viral, she became a celebrity, appearing on several Taiwanese variety programs. Once on a variety show, she mentioned that her workplace's customers have indeed risen due to her fame. However, she added that her manager isn't too with it because some of her fans simply go to McDonald's to get a photo of her and leave without buying anything.
In Wei's frequently updated Facebook profile, she is seen working as a model on the side. Her Instagram account is up to date with selfies as well.
