After it was confirmed earlier this year that "Disctrict 9" filmmaker Neill Blomkamp was committed to helming the fifth installment of the "Alien" saga, fans became completely excited with the idea - but as Ridley Scott's "Prometheus 2" is revealed for 2017, plans might have to change.
While there's no sign that Blomkamp's project had been scraped, it had been rumored for a few days that Ridley Scott's "Prometheus 2" was the first priority for producers 20th Century Fox, and now that the film has been confirmed as the legendary director's next film, it would appear like the planned 2017 release for "Alien 5" will have to be delayed.
According to Cinema Blend, ahead of Ridley Scott's "Prometheus 2" will come this year's release "The Martian," the broadly hyped "The Martian" starring Matt Damon, the film that's gotten the director comfortable with taking his filmmaking to space ventures once more.
The revelation of Ridley Scott's "Prometheus 2" as his next film came during an interview with Empire Magazine, when the 77 year-old filmmaker revealed he was already in pre-production for the Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace sequel, as Damon jokingly said the director worked so fast and had so much going on that it took him no time to jump to his next project.
"I was already on to my next movie!" was Ridley Scott's casual announcement of his next film. "I was starting to look for locations for my next movie, which is Prometheus 2."
Game Spot reports that the "Prometheus" sequel hasn't been officially announced by the studio yet, but it's said that it could start filming by January 2016, which would put all efforts on the sequel to the 2012 movie; however, this is also good news for fans of the Sigourney Weaver saga, as it means Blomkamp will have more time to work on the script for "Alien 5."
In any case, now it's time for science fiction fans to wait for more news on Ridley Scott's "Prometheus 2"!
