Gluten Free Beer is the Next Big Thing

Gluten-free diet is making its way into the food industry. This may be a trend, but numerous dietitians however stated that gluten free food is entirely unnecessary for most of the population. As per Telegraph's reports, only 1% of the population is diagnosed with coeliac. The auto immune disorder makes it hard for the body to digest gluten which can lead to stomach pains and even severe cramps.

Though gluten free diet is advised for individuals with coeliac, health conscious individuals adapted the diet as well. More than 12 million Britons are now embracing the diet whether it was required of them to do so or not.

Mintel, a market research firm then pointed out that gluten free beer is the next big thing in the "free from food" market.  The beers already made their way on the shelves at M&S, Waitrose and Asda.

Two main ingredients of beer however are barley and wheat which all contained gluten. Consumers then asked several questions regarding the gluten free been on whether they are necessary or does it affect the taste.

The gluten free beer was originally formulated for individuals with coeliac; the beer formulation however sparked interest among health conscious individuals.

Gluten free beers tend to use alternative grains and grasses such as rice, millet, corn, sorghum or buckwheat. These ingredients do give the drink a different taste compared to the original beer flavor. Consumers described the beer flavor as crisp and cider-like with fruity accents.

Dawn Davies, Selfridges' beer and wine buyer describes then stated:

"We sell two gluten-free beers, St Peters and Wold Top Against The Grain. Both tend to be a bit lighter and more delicate in character in comparison with others, but we find consumers are happy to have the option to buy."

The Bon Appetite website then came up with a list of the gluten free beer that's making a name in the market.
