Reese Witherspoon Arrested: Actress Taken in For Disorderly Conduct as Husband Gets Booked For DUI

Although she may be "Legally Blonde" the current brunette Reese Witherspoon was arrested on April 19 despite her acting chops as a lawyer.

"You are going to be on national news," Witherspoon allegedly told a Georgia state trooper while he arrested her husband James Toth for a DUI.

"Do you know my name?" she allegedly said.

Her celebrity status didn't seem to bother Trooper First Class J. Pyland, who arrested the actress for disorderly conduct.

"Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer," Pyland wrote in his police statement. "I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet."

That didn't quite work as Witherspoon, 37, hopped out of her Ford Fusion and began arguing further, saying she was a U.S. citizen and standing on American ground.

"Mrs. Witherspoon was resistant, but I was able to put handcuffs on her without incident due to Mr. Toth calming her," he said.

According to CNN, her lawyer worked out a deal with prosecutors on Monday in which Witherspoon will go through a "pre-trial intervention program" to avoid a conviction on her record.

The program is intended to provide an "alternate method(s) of resolving criminal matters other than prosecution," according to the courts website.

The program is for "participants charged with minor criminal offenses, do not have prior convictions, do not have any cases pending, and have not already gone through a diversion program."

The judge presiding over the case set a May 22 date to check in on the "Sweet Home Alabama" star to see if she has been complying with the program.

Witherspoon later apologized in a statement, saying, "I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I'm very sorry for my behavior."
