Food Served in Raleigh Hospital is of Restaurant Quality Thanks to Top Chef

In Raleigh, one cook aimed to revolutionize hospital food and serve restaurant quality dishes to the patients, medical professionals and hospital staff and he successfully did so according to WRAL.

When someone says hospital food most people would think of the word unappetizing and some would even go far as to say they think it's disgusting. This is mostly the case not only in the country but in other places outside the U.S. In Britain particularly, hospital food was considered as a scandal according to The Guardian. And this statement is not only due to a food writer's opinion. There were several photos sent in from patients that prove the claim.

At Raleigh, top chef of Rex Hospital aimed to change the negative connotation people associate with hospital food. When he first arrived at Rex Kitchen, the state was not at all ideal. As Conklin shared with Walter Magazine "he found little cooking talent in the kitchen, poor cooking techniques at work, and a culinary system that was simply not built around cooking." So he decided to make a change and the first change he did was to get rid of the deep fryer.

Now, the food at Rex Hospital is considered to be of superior quality that not only does it receive rave reviews from the patients, locals even consider going there for a holiday meal. Among the tasty and healthy dishes the kitchen serves are "roasted potatoes with rosemary and sea salt or grilled chicken with spinach, mozzarella, basil, and roasted bell pepper coulis." But that's not all he serves. Recipes at Rex Kitchen are always changing and Conklin even does seasonal menus.

Chef Conklin said his main goal was to make the patients feel better but now he sees that the Rex program can be a nationwide leader and serve as an inspiration for other hospitals not inside and outside of the country.
