Tyson Foods Recalls 75,000 Pounds of Chicken Nuggets for Unsafe Plastic Contamination

Tyson Foods has recalled thousands of pounds of its chicken nuggets after customers found pieces of plastic inside 5-pound bags of the poultry, according to USA Today.

Tyson Foods, the largest U.S. meat producer, announced on Friday that the company recalled 75,320 pounds of frozen white meat chicken nuggets sold at Sam's Club locations nationwide after customers reported injuries from small pieces of plastic found in the meat.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Springdale-based company released a statement clarifying that fully-cooked chicken nuggets were tainted with plastic from a faulty product scraper inside a blending machine.

"Tyson Foods has inspected all lines at the production facility to ensure product quality standards are being met and has implemented corrective measures at all of its facilities to prevent similar occurrences from happening," Dan Fogelman, Tyson Foods spokesman, told the Chicago Tribune.

Tyson chicken nugget products sold in smaller packages or at any other retailer were not included in the recall. There have yet to be any reports of serious injury or illness linked to the consumption of the chicken nuggets. The USDA noted a minor mouth injury in someone who ate the nuggets.

The products were produced on Jan. 26 or Feb. 16 at one of Tyson's 40 chicken production facilities. According to the USDA two different chicken nugget products were included in the recall:
