Ultimate Warrior Autopsy: WWE Pro Wrestler Died of Heart Disease

An autopsy report has confirmed that former professional wrestler, The Ultimate Warrior, died of cardiovascular disease, according to Maricopa County medical examiner's office.

TMZ reported that an autopsy for the athlete was conducted Thursday and the medical examiner concluded that there was no foul play in the death of Ultimate Warrior, who died on April 8 at the age of 54. Born as James Brian Hellwig, the athlete legally changed his name in 1993.

No drugs or alcohol were in the athlete's system at the time of his death. TMZ reported that Warrior collapsed on the sidewalk outside of his hotel room in Scottsdale, Arizona at 5:50 PM while walking to his car with his wife, Dana.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner officially classified the death as "Atherosclerotic/Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease", also known as heart disease.

His death comes days after being inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame and one day after he made his first appearance on WWE's "Raw" since 1996. Known for his face paint, Ultimate Warrior was one of pro wrestling's biggest stars in the late 1980s.

"WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior," WWE said in a statement after his death. "We are grateful that just days ago, Warrior had the opportunity to take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame and was also able to appear at WrestleMania 30 and Monday Night Raw to address his legions of fans."

Warrior was 54 and is survived by his wife, Dana, and his two daughters.
