The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall order for AC power cords belonging to Hewlett-Packard Compaq laptops and notebooks. It is believe that a number of these power cords are faulty and has the potential to cause accidental burning of the skin or even electrical fire.
How To Determine if Your HP or Compaq Power Cord is Faulty
The Commission gave a complete description of the faulty AC cord. It said, "The power cords are black in color and have an 'LS-15' molded mark on the AC adapter end of the power cord."
Incidents of HP Injuries Recorded
The faulty power cords caused 29 incidents of overheating which sometimes resulted in melting of the wires. There were 2 minor burn claims as well 13 minor property damage claims.
The same consumer report advises users, who have the faulty power cords, to stop and unplug the AC cord. Consumer should then inform the HP Company in order to get a replacement cord, free of charge.
Number of Units Recalled
The number of units sold with the defective power cords are estimated at around 6,000,000 more or less. Though manufactured in China, the units were mostly distributed in the United States and Canada. The defective units were sold between the dates of September 2010 up to June 2012.
As indicated by Forbes, "While it's a sure bet that only a small percentage of the 6 million recalled power cords are faulty, this is one situation you don't want to leave to chance. Reach out to HP if you have any doubts or concerns whatsoever."
