David Canary: Longtime 'All My Children' Star, Dies at 77

David Canary, a longtime star of the cast of ABC daytime program "All My Children" who played twins actor Adam and Stuart Chandler, died of natural causes on November 16 at aged 77 in Wilton, Conn.

Canary appeared on "All My Children" from 1984-2011, which is an American television soap opera that aired on ABC for 41 years. The show is a light-hearted soap opera that focused on social issues and young love. David got five awards for Daytime Emmys for his dual role in it and was nominated many times.

He also appeared on hit TV shows, including Curb Your Enthusiasm - an American-comedy television series, Touched by an Angel - a supernatural drama series, Law & Order - a police procedural and legal drama television series and Bonanza - a western television series.

Canary began his acting career in theater in New York before working in television and in film. His first role in a soap opera was as a physical therapist on Peyton Place.

Canary was born in Elwood, Ind., but grew up in Massillon, Ohio. He earned a football scholarship to the University of Cincinnati, where he developed a passion for performing. He trained as a singer at the school and graduated with a degree in music.

Canary's former AMC co-star, Kelly Ripa, tweeted, "So sad to learn of the passing of the great David Canary. A incredibly talented actor. A wonderful man. I was lucky to know you." Kelly is now the co-host of her ABC daytime show, Live With Kelly and Michael, she played David's daughter Hayley Vaughan on the long-running soap.

Canary was an active member of the Wilton, Conn., community where he lived. He and his wife, Maureen, opened the Wilton Education Foundation's 1997 spelling bee and volunteered with several local charities.

David is survived by his wife of 33 years, Maureen; his son, Christopher; his daughter, Kathryn; and his grandson, Donovan. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association's David Canary Memorial Fund.
