'Amy' Nominated For Producers Guild's Documentary Award

"Amy," "The Hunting Ground," "The Look of Silence," "Meru" and "Something Better to Come" have been nominated by the Producers Guild of America (PGA) for the top documentary award.

The first four of those films are among the highest profile docs released in the last year, with “Amy” and “The Look of Silence” scoring nominations from the two leading bodies that award non-fiction filmmaking, the International Documentary Association and the Cinema Eye Honors.

"Amy" - A British documentary film that depicts the life and death of singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse and is directed by Asif Kapadia.

"The Hunting Ground" - is a documentary film about alleged incidents of rape on college campuses in the United States. It has become a rallying point for survivors' groups challenging the prevailing campus culture.

"The Look of Silence" - (Indonesian: Senyap, "Silence") is a 2014 Danish documentary film directed by Joshua Oppenheimer. A follow-up to 2002's "The Act of Killing," focuses on a family that survived the Indonesia genocide.

"Meru" - is a 2015 documentary film chronicling the first ascent of the "Shark's Fin" route on Meru Peak in the Indian Himalayas.

"Something Better to Come" - A 11-Year-old girl name Yula lives in one of the most desolate places on Earth: the Svalka, the biggest junkyard in Europe, 20 km outside the center of Moscow.

All nominations of qualified producers for the Award for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures will be presented on January 5.

The winner will be announced on January 23 at the Producer's Guild of America ceremony in Los Angeles.

During the awards, the Producers Guild will also present special honors to Jim Gianopulos - Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Filmed Entertainment, Shonda Rhimes - Gray's Anatomy and Scandal showrunner and David Heyman - best known for the Harry Potter Films, Gravity and Paddington.

The 2016 Producers Guild Awards co-chairs are Michael DeLuca - The Social Network, Captain Phillips and Jennifer Todd - Alice in Wonderland, Celeste and Jesse Forever.
