McDonald’s Singapore Gets TRUFFLE Fries, As Gourmet Wave Takes Over Southeast Asia Franchise

Over the past few years, major fast food chains like McDonald's and Burger King have been losing their touch in front of a new wave of meals like the fast casual offerings in places like Shake Shack or Five Guys, so their hand's forced to try out new, more gourmet-led things - and McDonald's Singapore has risen the bar a bit further now!

Following gourmet burgers in Australia and even table service in the United Kingdom, the chain's franchise in the Southeast Asian city-state has upped the ante a bit further, as McDonald's Singapore isn't offering something as simple as a build-it-yourself burger - they're selling truffle fries!

According to UK outlet Metro, these new McDonald's Singapore truffle fries are not "too posh," as they're basically just regular fries flavored as truffle, in a concept similar to something they've done in the past, having also served packets of cheese as well as seaweed seasoning for the famous side.

In all, it sounds rather like the French fries version of adding seasoning to an instant ramen soup, which is a fairly college student concept in itself.

Mashable reports that even if the McDonald's Singapore new offer isn't all that complex (not adding anything like actual truffles or pancetta), ever since they were launched last Thursday, many have gone up to the chain's locations in the island country to enjoy the new seasoning, so who knows if the seasoning's success leads to more experimentation with this flavor or other more gourmet-based ones.

According to Student Age, many have taken to McDonald's Singapore not only to try their new truffle fries but also to comment on the new side option on social media, and there have been mixed reviews so far, with one Twitter user saying they tasted more like "sour cream and onion" while others were just excited to see the plate.

It's unknown if the McDonald's Singapore truffle fries will be done soon, but it's best if you're visiting to try them out ASAP!
