Why You Should Not Wear Hair Ties On Your Wrists

According to doctors, wearing hair bands on wrists should be avoided as it can cause serious health problems.

It is traditional to put hair ties in the wrists when not in use. However, experts warn the public that the said habit can cause adverse health effects.

The new finding was discovered after a woman suffered from a severe infection because of wearing hair bands on her wrist.

As what WGAL reported, the woman named Audree Kopp experienced a horrible incident that is connected to her hair tie. The Kentucky-born woman was in the middle of an activity when she noticed that a red bump on her wrist was getting bigger. Even though the doctor already prescribed her with antibiotics, the symptoms still persisted.

Dr. Amit Gupta, Kopp's doctor then discovered that the infection on her patient's wrist was due to the hair band. Gupta said that the infection was caused by the bacteria on the hair ties which penetrated to the blood stream thru the skin's pores and hair follicles.

On a video, Dr. Gupta warn everyone concerning the proper wearing of head bands.

"Be careful when you put these hair ties around the wrist particularly because it can cause problems with the skin and it can cause infection," stated by the doctor.

In order to remove the infection, Gupta slit the wrist of Kopp to drain the pus. After that, the wound was treated and dressed.

Audree Kopp said that she will now be using smooth hair bands rather than the glittering ones. She also stated that she will never put the hair bands on her wrists again.

Dr. Gupta also ordered those individuals who are currently wearing hair ties to remove them immediately if they notice any red marks on their skin which can later cause infection.
