'The Legend of Tarzan' Debuts First Trailer

The king of the jungle is returning to the big screen. Warner Bros. Pictures has just unveiled the first teaser trailer for The Legend of Tarzan, a new live-action take on Edgar Rice Burrough's iconic character.

The trailer presents the world of Tarzan like we've never seen it before with the harsh conditions and savage beauty of the Congo Jungle laid bare for all to see.

Directed by Harry Potter veteran David Yates, the film stars former True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard in the title role. Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie will play his wife Jane Porter. Joining them is a star-studded ensemble cast that includes two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz, Oscar winner Jim Broadbent, and Oscar nominees John Hurt, Samuel L. Jackson, and Djimon Hounsou.

The film's official plot description reads:

It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.

"It's almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it's about taming the beast," Said Skarsgard in an interview with USA Today. "This is about a man who's holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out." Yates added, with regards to Tarzan and Jane's relationship, "In a way, it's a story of two human beings and how they save each other."
