'Star Wars' Vs 'Star Trek': Bill Nye Reveals Which Franchise Is Best [VIDEO]

Another science guy is weighing in on the 'Star Wars vs Star Trek' debate!

Just a few days after Neil DeGrasse Tyson declared that the Starship Enterprise is superior compared to the Millennium Falcon, Bill Nye has been roped into the age-old debate over two pop culture icons. This time, it wasn't just a question of which is the better spaceship. It was a battle between two franchises.

According to Laughing Squid, Bill Nye was asked by Rolling Stone reporter Tessa Stuart to decide on which was the better franchise, 'Star Trek' or 'Star Wars.' And of course, since he is known as 'The Science Guy,' his response couldn't be more obvious.

"Some of the best friends like 'Star Wars,' don't get me wrong. But 'Star Wars' has magic in it," Nye said. "It has the Force and it's really about family conflicts and it's Shakespearean. It's this nobility, essentially. There's 'commoners' and there's all-powerful kings, essentially."

Bill Nye then compared the fantasy of 'Star Wars' to the reality of 'Star Trek.'

"But in 'Star Trek,' it's an optimistic view of the future with science. They have anti-matter contained in magnetic fields, which is physics, which is the real thing," he said. "But in 'Star Wars,' it's just magic. They have wings, their sound effects in space, it's a different deal. Right there, the Force is like a ghost or magic or religion."

At this point, Tessa Stuart laughs but Bill Nye could not be stopped.

"It is," he said. "There's an invisible thing that has superpowers, magical power. But in 'Star Trek,' they didn't do that. They didn't go that way."

It sure looks like 'Star Wars' may be winning when it comes to the fantastical storyline, but science guys like Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Bill Nye still prefer the realistic take of 'Star Trek.'
