Tis the Season to Be Jolly: Tips on How to Enjoy the Holiday Season

With Christmas approaching, more and more people get excited preparing for "the most wonderful time of the year." Who doesn't want to have a festive feel when Christmas comes, right? There's so much to love about Christmas. Everything, in fact. From putting up Christmas trees and hanging beautiful decors on it, the traditional carols, and the month long Christmas songs playing nonstop wherever you go.

While others think about these things, others are excited to load themselves with calories. Diets and calorie count does not apply during this time of the year, all that counts is family time and being together.

Speaking of Christmas, there are some people, especially those with things going on in their lives, who can't seem to find the joy and excitement in Christmas. For them, it's a time connected with anxiety and sadness. In fact, these people compare this season to divorce and being robbed to describe how much stress it brings to them.

I'm still hoping that the Christmas bug is right around the corner, and that it will infect everybody with the joy and excitement everybody needs. However, if it doesn't then here are some tips that may help those who "lost their Christmas spirit" get through the season with their well-being and sanity intact.

  • Don't set too many expectations

Too much expectation is not always good. If you expect everything to run smoothly, there might be a chance that it won't and you will feel utterly disappointed. The expensive gifts under your tree or the beautifully decorated house are not all that matters. What genuinely matters is the thought that you can share food and time with the people you love. Reminding ourselves these things is a good way to keep things in perspective.

  • Learn to say no

Since Christmas is known for its holiday festivities, by the time the 25th comes, most of us are already exhausted from all the Christmas parties, school concerts, work gatherings and the like. It usually takes away the free time you normally have. Learning to say "NO" should be everyone's goal that is not easy, and requires lots and lots of practice.  There are some people, however, that feels bad when they turn somebody down. It's usually a normal feeling but just think of the benefits it can give you. Getting a time off from all the "busy-ness" will make you more relaxed and make you enjoy the day more.

  • Delegate

NEVER do everything yourself. Plan ahead of time and make a to- do-list, and then ask people to help out. Honestly speaking, most of us want to feel needed and involved, and the more we distribute the work at hand, the more we feel positive and happy. Enable people to help, sharing the load is good for everyone.

Whether it's the Christmas season or not, these tips will help you enjoy the occasion more and become the life of the party that you were born to be. Happy Holidays!!
