Texas Doctor Sentenced: Ten Years In Prison After Poisoning Lover’s Coffee

Texas Doctor Sentenced - Dr. Ana Gonzalez-Angulo, a Colombian native who was working and living in Texas as a breast cancer oncologist, was sentenced yesterday, Sept. 29th to spend ten years in prison after poisoning Dr. George Blumenschein's coffee in January of 2013.

It was during Friday, Sept. 26th that she was found guilty of effectively lacing the beverage of Dr. George Blumenschein in 2013, according to NY Daily News.

Apparently, the Texas doctor was the lover of Dr. George Blumenschein, while he was in a relationship already for ten years with Evette Toney and then he chose Evette over her, so out of being "scorned," the doctor decided to take matters into a different level, as ABC News noted.

What she did was spike the cup of coffee with ethlene glocol, which is "a sweet tasting ingredient found in antifreeze," and the same day that the Dr. Blumenshein tasted the coffee he expressed that its taste was particular, but Dr. Ana Gonzalez "allegedly told him that it was Splenda he tasted and encouraged him to keep drinking," according to NY Daily News.

Dr. Blumenschein underwent an emergency dialysis that same day and survived, but his kidneys are in no way the same. In fact, they function in a 40% after the incident.

The prosecutors wanted to get thirty years for her in prison, but they still remained pleased with the ten years given to her, according to KPRC.

The defense attorney said in her favor, "Dr. Gonzalez is an incredibly caring doctor who devoted her entire life and profession to curing breast cancer. Both treating patients and in her research."

Before she could be eligible for parole, Dr. Ana Gonzalez- Angulo will have to spend at least five years behind bars and only then her case could be revised to take further steps.
