Samantha Womack's Stalker Given Suspended Sentence

Samantha Womack's stalker was given a suspended sentence.

Peter Rombough, 22, from Ditchingham, Norfolk appeared at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court on Monday. He was sentenced an eight week prison that is suspended for 12 months as per BBC.

The court heard that Rombough travelled 93 miles twice last year just to see the EastEnders' actress at her home in Bedfordshire.

In a statement read to the court, Womack said that the stalking incident had a "massive impact" on her life and she feared for the safety of her family. The actress also said that she "can't stop thinking about it." But although it was a very disturbing period, she said she was also "concerned about his well-being and do hope he is okay and needs to seek some help."

During the hearing, it was found out that Rombough first went to Womack's property in May but failed to see the actress. In September 3, he then went back to the property.

In Sept 10, Samantha said she saw a light outside on their house in the early hours of the night. Her husband, Mark, went outside to check it and saw Rombough. Mark asked him to leave but he refused to do so.

The court also heard that Rombough left Womack a disturbing letter, telling her that he feared he "couldn't deal with the consequences" of the actress rejecting him.

"I do harbour some sort of love for you - I can't live with that regret and the fact any other woman is second best to you. I could go to a really dark place where you are concerned," the letter added.

The court heard that his "unhealthy crush" for the actress started when he was just 16.

Presiding magistrate Robin Hornby ruled that Rombough should be under a restraining order and should seek help on mental health facility.

"We must disregard that this was a high profile victim," Hornby said. "Stalking is stalking and it does not matter who it is. It is not a nice thing."
