On Friday, December 18 at about 9 a.m., officers detained six people for disorderly conduct after they blocked the entrance to the site.
Actor James Cromwell was among the six people arrested at an upstate New York power plant that is under construction.
The actor was known as an activist of both animal rights and environmental, he led a group of about 30 protesters in a chant before he was taken into custody for blocking the entrance to the Competitive Power Ventures power plant.
"People have a right to live without fear that their communities will be polluted, poisoned and destroyed." Cromwell later told E! News in a statement.
"An industry that puts its lust for profit ahead of the well being of everyone and ultimately threatens the survival of all life on earth," Cromwell later told E! News in a statement. Actor added.
The 75-year-old, star of Babe and L.A. Confidential locked himself together with two other protesters after claiming the Competitive Power Ventures facility in Orange County, a short distance to the north of New York City, will cause both dangerous toxins and lower property values in the area.
Protesters have said they believe toxins from the plant will cause health issues, such as asthma and cancer, and that it will lower property value in the area.
Back to the 1960's Cromwell was a member of the Comittee to defend the Panthers, set up to support the members of the Black Panthers who had been arrested on charges of conspiracy.
James Cromwell has had a career spanning six decades and appeared in such TV shows as American Horror Story and film including Star Trek: first Contact and the Artist.
The actor will next appear alongside Jude Law and Diane Keaton in Paolo Sorrentino’s upcoming series "The Young Pope."
Cromwell was arrested for interrupting a University of Wiscons in Board of Regents meeting in February 2013, while showing a graphic photo of a cat to protest alleged mistreatment of animals on campus.
