Celebrity Chef Cooks Gravity Defying Meals For Astronauts

British celebrity chef and proprietor of The Fat Duck will be joining the pack of chefs who will cooking Christmas dishes for the astronauts who are currently orbiting the earth.

Michelin starred chef Heston Blumenthal will be cooking sumptuous meals for British astronaut Tim Peake and his team, who are currently on board the International Space Station (ISS) and travelling around the earth, which is about 400 kilometers away from their families.

Blumenthal, who is known for innovating cooking through science will be cooking dishes that can remind astronauts about earth, specially their families. Christmas and New Year treats include Alaskan salmon, Thai chicken, Sunday roast, curry and special pudding.

The chef admitted that it's challenging for him to prepare food for the astronauts as he needs to create delicious meals that can defy gravity. But although he found this task increasingly onerous, he said that he is bursting with pride after being chosen to cook for the space travelers.

"I felt a surge of pride to be involved in such a historic moment for both astronomy and gastronomy," he said via the Guardian. "Imagine telling a young boy that when he grows up he will create food for astronauts to eat in space - it's a dream I couldn't even envisage, let alone it coming true!"

American Scott Kelly, the commander of the ISS was the one who decided for the menu for the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day after consulting with his team member.

Meanwhile, Tim Peake alongside fellow astronauts Scott Kelly and Tim Kopra sent a Christmas video in which they wished everyone on earth a very merry Christmas. "Although we can't be with our friends and families this year, we'll be orbiting the Earth 16 times on Christmas Day and sending all our good wishes to everybody back down on our beautiful planet Earth," they said, which has been posted on Nasa's YouTube channel.
