University of Kentucky To Offer Exclusive Taco Classes

For all the taco lovers of the country, good news awaits. Moreover, this is not only for people who love to have tacos, but also for the people who love to prepare them.

The University of Kentucky recently announced that from this semester, they will be offering an undergraduate course named "Taco Literacy: Public Advocacy and Mexican Food in the US South," according to reports from Munchies.

Steven Alvarez, who is an assistant professor of Writing, Rhetoric and Digital Studies department of the University, will lead the course.

With the help of the course, the students will be taught about Mexican food in Kentucky and Southern area.

According to rumors, eating tacos will be an integral part of the curriculum. However, the students will also be expected to read about different aspects of taco, and even tortillas.

When Alvarez was asked about the reason behind creating such a schedule, he mentioned that part of it was due to his involvement with Southern Foodways Alliance, where he discovered that food is really important.

Alvarez also mentioned that since its inception, the class has received a positive response and even the most stubborn students, who hate writing has had a change in them while writing about food.

The syllabus will contain transnational community food literacy, and also the history of Mexican and Mexican American food in Kentucky. Students are supposed to write the recipes, and rhetorics based on the food variations and literacies. The whole syllabus can be found at the website.

Thus, it seems that the crash course on Tacos will not only cover the food aspects, but also the cultural aspects of Mexico and Mexican Americans who actually brought the food over the borders.

It is yet to be seen what the results of the class will be, but Alvarez is positive about its future.
