UberEATS Now a Food Delivery App, Not Just an Option at Uber

It was only in the second quarter of last year when Uber introduced an option called UberEATS in the cities it operates in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and Toronto. Now, the new UberEATS is separate and an independent app available on iOS and Android. Those who love food in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Toronto can order from their favorite local restaurants, all-day and all-night long. Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Melbourne, New York, Paris, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. are targeted to be the next cities that UberEATS will be made available.

UberEATS product manager Chetan Narain explained the reason why UberEATS must cease to be just an option at an Uber app, instead, it must have a different app of its own, "We learned quickly that requesting a ride and ordering a meal are two very different experiences."  In the past, users have their food deliveries via Uber using the ride-hailing service's primary app. With the launching of UberEATS, it now becomes a history of Uber technology.

According to UberEATS, it delivers the best meals from your favorite local restaurants in 10 minutes or less. Rather than standing in long restaurant lines, trying to find parking at your favorite restaurant, or dealing with unpredictable delivery times, UberEATS brings you a delicious meal on-demand with none of the hassles. UberEATS offers different meals at different prices. Lunch options typically range from $8 to $12. There is also a flat delivery fee for each request, regardless of the number of meals you order.

With the growing food apps in the U.S., UberEATS will likely be a major player in the online food delivery industry. While it's too early to tell since UberEATS just launched this new food delivery app, Uber made the right decision in avoiding confusion in separating Uber and UberEATS for the benefit of its loyal consumers.
