Ezra Miller’s Flash: While an Odd Casting Choice, Miller Will Now Be Enjoying The Perks of Being a Superhero!

While the actor might seem an unlikely choice for fans of the DC Comics character, last Wednesday it was announced that Ezra Miller's Flash was a reality. The actor is most famous for his eerie turn as a teenage murderer in the disturbing film We Need to Talk About Kevin, alongside Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton - but now, Ezra Miller's Flash will be joining the list of superheroes in the big screen, in a solo film adaptation of one of DC Comics' most famous characters, which is set for a 2018 release.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, in a Time Warner's earnings meeting last Wednesday, the chairman of Warner Bros, Kevin Tsujihara, made the official announcement that they already had a name to put to the face of Sheldon Cooper's favorite superhero: Ezra Miller.

Ezra Miller's Flash comes as a surprise to many, as the actor is mostly known for his eccentric and offbeat roles, like the aforementioned Kevin and his performance in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, where he plays Patrick, an outspokenly gay teenage boy in a 90s Pittsburg high school.

The casting of Ezra Miller as Flash says a lot about the direction the growing DC Comics' film universe is taking, as Miller is hardly the typical stereotype of the buffed superhero - as a matter of fact, he's become famous for just the opposite: an androgynous physique that's suited him well in indie films, but makes him an unlikely choice to play a superhero.

Ezra Miller's Flash is just the latest announcement in the newly installed DC Comics cinematic universe, which has been seen exponential growth in characters since last year's successful introduction of Superman with Man of Steel. DC has a lot to catch up to, since Marvel's Avengers already have 9 successful movies out, plus the unrelated summer blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy.
