McDonald’s Closing Stores: 59 U.S. Golden Arches Locations Close In 2015, Unveiling New Burger Mighty Angus – Is It Enough To Save Fast Food Giant?

For the first time in its four decades of history as the biggest fast food chain in the entire world, McDonald's is closing stores in the United States after more than a year in poor sales - but the company's doing everything in its power to keep things running as usual.

There's a massive movement now that McDonald's is closing stores, as the company has recently announced they'll be shutting down operations in 184 locations throughout the country and opening 125 new ones over the course of 2015, with the difference building up to 59 locations.

According to Bloomberg, the information that McDonald's is closing stores came from a franchise operations document that was recently filed at the Minnesota Department of Commerce in July, after the company had said in a statement earlier this summer that they'd be closing some of its U.S. locations over the course of the year.

"In the U.S., we will have a net reduction in restaurants, but the impact is minimal in comparison to the 14,000 restaurants we operate across the country," company spokesperson Becca Hary told the press, speaking about McDonald's is closing stores. "We consistently review our restaurant portfolio and make strategic decisions to better position our business for the future."

Besides news that McDonald's is closing stores, CNBC reports locations aren't the only sizes changing for the fast food chain, as they've also recently made a change for arguably its most popular item, their classic Quarter Pounder burger.

Now, the Quarter pounder includes 4.25 ounces of beef, which 0.25 more than its former size before cooking.

Also, according to 570 News, McDonald's is launching its first burger in over three years in Canada, in its latest attempt to boost sales once more: the Mighty Angus.

Will these strategies be enough to salvage the Golden Arches chain - even at the cost of McDonald's closing stores?
