You wake up in the morning and you want to eat pancakes. You're going to be late for work, you're lazy and hungry, so you decide it's either that you make pancakes or brewed coffee. You no longer need to choose now because a Brandeis biophysicist named Dan Perlman has a new invention: the easy to use coffee flour that makes your coffee pancakes!

The method of making this coffee flour is to roast green coffee beans which enhance health benefits of coffee.  He developed the flour milled from parbaked beans as a food ingredient and a nutritional supplement. The flour contains an antioxidant called chlorogenic acid (CGA), which is typically lost when beans are roasted. Some scientists think this is why coffee makes you live longer and could reduce the risk of heart disease, liver disease, and type 2 diabetes.

So what's the catch here?

This milled flour can make you caffeinated pancakes.  Yes, because four grams of this invention (about 1/2 tablespoon) contains as much caffeine as a cup of coffee. While the parbaked coffee bean can't be used to make coffee because it was not roasted enough to create that coffee flavor, the result, however, is a wheat-coloured flour.  That flour, in turn, is your caffeinated flour ready to make your coffee pancakes!  This coffee flour being blended with regular flours for baking are used in breakfast cereals and snack bars and added to soups, juices, and nutritional drinks.

The distinct taste of the coffee pancake is nutty, pleasant and mild just enough to give you a morning energy breakfast.

Tips In Enhancing Your Coffee Pancakes:

  • Sweeten up your coffee pancakes with honey, strawberry or sweeteners to add flavor
  • Add some real fruits on your pancake!
  • Use different roasts to change up the flavor of your pancakes!

In case the coffee pancake is not enough to give you the much-needed energy boost, you can always make real coffee that goes with it.
