Raisins are so underrated. But these small black things are packed with benefits that no one should be overlooking. Below are just three that might make you remember why you should add a box of raisins to your grocery list the next time.

Raisins Can Help Cure Constipation and Improve Overall Digestion

You may or may not know that raisins are perfect for constipation relief. You would know this if your mother asks you to eat raisin bran cereal if you feel like something is wrong with your digestion and cannot relieve yourself for some time. Some parents would even buy small boxes of raisins for their children to snack on everyday to ensure good digestion.

There is scientific evidence why raisins work so well for constipation relief. According to experts, 1/4 cup of raisins contains about 2 grams of fiber, which is already as high as 7% of the daily value for the majority of people.

Raisins are so easy to eat. You can just eat them from the box or sprinkle them on top of your oats, which are also known to be rich in fiber, for that extra digestion boost.

Raisins Can Boost Iron Levels and Lower Risks of Anemia

Iron deficiency is the main cause of anemia. While there are many iron supplements, it is always better to just source vitamins and minerals from actual foods. Raisins, for one, are packed with iron, so if you need a boost, eating these can be the answer.

There are many other iron-rich foods, and raisins are not the richest source of it. And yet, it is the easiest to eat, given its versatility and small size. At 1/2 cup serving of the dried fruit, a woman can already gain 7% of the recommended daily amount for them.

It is known that women are the most at-risk of being deficient in iron because of their monthly menstruation, although naturally, men need this too.

Raisins Can Prevent Heart Attacks Other Cardiovascular Diseases

Something as small as raisins can be so potent to keep the heart health in check.

According to studies, raisins are loaded with antioxidants because they contain a massive amount of phytonutrients, known as phenols and polyphenols. Antioxidants are widely known to be effective in preventing different illnesses involving the heart because they prevent the changes that would turn cholesterol molecules in the blood into substances that would, later on, build plaques into artery walls.

These antioxidants can kick out the free radicals from one's blood, which is crucial to protect one's cells and DNA. If these free radicals are not removed, they can lead to major health complications, including cardiovascular diseases and deadly cancers.

Raisins will never be a miracle worker. Eating them alone will not mean one can no longer have cancer or heart disease. But these small fruits can certainly do wonders in reducing the risks because of the antioxidants packed into them.
