Apart from the usual oily and greasy foods, known for threatening massive breakouts, there are some more foods few people actually know they must not eat when they want clear skin.

Next to having a solid skin regimen is having a nutritious diet to have smooth, glowing skin. While skin is the largest external organ, getting it to glow and clear up takes internal work.

How to Avoid Acne: No To Certain Milk and Dairy

Not all milk and dairy products can lead to breakouts. However, there are some that can seriously contribute to and aggravate skin conditions, such as acne. The effect may not be universal, but to maintain clear skin, it is best to avoid these products.

According to a 2016 study, some milk and dairy products contain high amounts of IGF-1, which can lead to severe acne. It is necessary to check if the dairy products you are about to consume have this hormone content.

Some studies have shown that, surprisingly, skim milk can lead to more acne or breakouts. Skim milk is normally believed to be the healthier alternative to whole milk, though. But maybe not for maintaining clear skin, as reported by Medical News Today

A better alternative to whole milk, therefore, might not be skim milk but soy milk.

An older study, wherein the researchers asked people to consume 160 milligrams of a compound from soybeans called isoflavone every day for three months, showed that soy can reduce acne lesions or pimples.

Soy is also linked to decreased androgen hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels, which is related to testosterone, a known factor behind acne.

Milk and dairy products with the amino leucine can also lead to a higher amount of sebum (oil!) in skin cells, which normally causes bad breakouts.

How to Avoid Acne? Stay Away from Sugary Foods

Research shows that diets with a high glycemic index (GI) can cause acne. In layman's terms, this just means sugary foods.

Sugary foods can raise insulin levels faster than non-sugary or low-GI foods. The more the body produces insulin or the more excess insulin within the body, the more sebum and androgen hormones can be produced as well. Both are notorious for causing acne.

Refined grains and sugary cereals must be avoided. Cookies, white bread, and sugary beverages can also work against having clear skin.

Don't Want Acne? Say No To Alcohol

Apart from what not to eat, there is something that you must avoid drinking, too, when your dream is to achieve flawless, smooth skin - and that's alcohol.

According to Healthline, drinking alcohol does not necessarily mean acne will immediately result. But it is an indirect cause. Alcohol can affect certain bodily systems, such as your hormone development, which, in turn, can cause acne development.
