Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Yoram Harth warns Eat This, Not That! that processed meats like hotdogs, pepperoni, and bacon contain a lot of saturated fats and nitrates that can cause inflammation.
Just like processed meats, fatty cuts of fresh meat have high amounts of saturated fats, says cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Michele Green. They also contain concentrated amounts of insulin growth factor that stimulates androgen (sex hormones) production. These hormones trigger increased oil production, and excess oil is one of the major causes of acne. Dr. Green suggests eating leaner cuts of meat like chicken, turkey, and fish.
