Twice a year, Variety honors some of the most powerful and important women in the entertainment industry, particularly those who use their celebrity status to create conscience on serious subjects and open doors for other women behind them; this year, Rachel Weisz's Variety appearance shined in a sky full of stars.
Held twice a year (in New York and Los Angeles), the "Power of Women" luncheon usually features some of the biggest and most interesting women in show business; this time around, Rachel Weisz's Variety appearance was joined by HBO "Girls" star and creator Lena Dunham, "Fatal Attraction" icon Glenn Close, fellow Oscar winner and "The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg and reality star and businesswoman Kim Kardashian West.
The Daily Mail reports that Dunham and Rachel Weisz's Variety invitation saw both actresses recognized for their charity work: the "Mummy" actress and Daniel Craig's wife works with Opportunity Network, a New York City charity that helps kids with internships, college applications and interviews' prep; Dunham, on the other hand, supports Girls Educational & Mentoring Services, a charity against sex trafficking.
Women's Wear Daily reports that the luncheon that saw Rachel Weisz's Variety honor also featured Glenn Close giving an incredible speech on mental illness and her own charity, BringChange2Mind; Goldberg, on her part, works for Figure Skating in Harlem, a charity that teaches young girls leadership through figure skating.
On her part, reality show superstar and Kanye West's wife, Kim Kardashian, works with the Children's Hospital Los Angeles, according to Entertainment Tonight.
In the red carpet, Rachel Weisz's Variety look made her shine, as she shared some pictures with an excited-looking Dunham.
Other attendees included "How I Met Your Mother" actresses Cobie Smulders and Jennifer Morrison, "The View" co-host Rosie Perez, "Orange is the New Black" star Dascha Polanco and Constance Zimmer.
