Food Blog Round-Up

Although BestFoodNet is a fantastic place to go for food news and recipes, there are other food sites to check out with a personal twist. Here are a few favorites.

1) 344 Pounds
Shawn Tyler Weeks began his blog in January of 2009 when he weighed -- you guessed it -- 344 pounds. Today he weighs 211.6 pounds. He blogs about his physical activity, his thoughts, and, of course, what his meals. Pictures lend visible proof of his progress. The site is honest and inspiring. It’s definitely worth a look.

2) Never Seconds
Nine-year-old Martha Payne of Scotland began her blog as a way to show how unhealthy her school lunches were. The resulting media attention (including a story on BestFoodNet.com) helped to put pressure on the school to provide more nutritious lunches. Now, the pictures of her lunches show vegetables and fruit cups. She has inspired other school children to share their mid-day meal experiences. She’s a little girl who created a big change with her writing. Her blog is equally as impressive as she is.

3) Food Oddities
This site features a boy from mid-west in the United States named Remy. Remy, unlike many kids his age, is fearless as far as food is concerned. He tries unusual foods that many people in the country are not familiar with, and then gives his assessment of the experience. The only rules governing his culinary adventures are that it has to be considered food somewhere in the world and it cannot be a “Frankenstein.” So far, he has eaten iguana, silkworms, grass jelly, and chicken hearts. There have been 10 seasons so far, and it’s even caught the attention of fellow food adventurer Andrew Zimmern.
