Letterman Set Dumpster: Hours After EPIC ‘Late Show With David Letterman’ Farewell, CBS Throws Out Set – Hearts Break [PHOTOS]

Millions of people grew up watching "The Late Show with David Letterman," and the past few weeks before the last episode of the iconic late night host saw some of the biggest names in the world celebrating his career in television - but now that it's all over, CBS put the Letterman set in dumpster.

Though it's an obvious move and it hadn't been announced to the contrary, the show that ran for 22 years with the legendary host is now more than over and there are no hopes for return as the Letterman set's in dumpster.

According to The New York Post, sentimental fans gathered outside the historic theater where "The Late Show" was shot for decades, the Ed Sullivan Theater, to bid farewell to the last bits of the show before Stephen Colbert takes the spot next fall ... but the network didn't share the same sentimentality as stagehands threw Letterman's set in dumpster.

AV Club reports that, as the Letterman's set in dumpster news became viral, many fans went back to the Broadway theater to retrieve pieces from the iconic set after it was on air for more than 20 years.

It wasn't the entirety of Letterman's set in dumpster, but rather a great number of the many bridges that were in the background of the now-retired host's many conversations, as well as some seats from the theater and other parts of the set of the beloved show.

The replica of the George Washington Bridge was maintained, however, for the sake of posterity.

The Daily Mail reports that trucks came into the 53rd Street near the theater on Thursday morning, only hours after the celebrity-studded finale of the show, and CBS workmen sawed and dismantled the set before the eyes of weeping fans who may have thought it was too soon.

It's unknown whether there were other items of that escaped the majority of Letterman's set in dumpster.
