Ben Stiller Finally Reacts About Anne Meara's Death, Tweets About Mother

Comedian Ben Stiller has finally spoken up about his mother Anne Meara's recent passing. Meara, who was married to Jerry Stiller and was the better half of comedy team 'Stiller and Meara,' had passed away on Saturday at the age of 85.

Stiller posted on Twitter to thank the many friends and fans who have reached out to comfort him. "Thank you so much for all the kind words about Anne," the actor wrote. "All of us in our family feel so lucky to have had her in our lives."

On Sunday, both Ben and Jerry Stiller released a statement to The Associated Press confirming Meara's death on Saturday. There were no other details included.

Meara married the older Stiller in 1954, after which he suggested she try comedy. They were soon known as 'Stiller and Meara,' appearing on 'The Ed Sullivan Show' and 'The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.' The couple decided to break up the act in 1970 but have returned via a web series on 2010. The series, simply titled 'Stiller and Meara,' was produced by the younger Stiller's production company Red Hour Digital.

In addition to the comedy act, Anne Meara has also starred in several TV series. She was featured in 'Archie Bunker's Place,' 'The King of Queens,' 'Sex and the City' and 'Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.' The actress had a small role in her son's 2006 comedy flick 'Night at the Museum.'

Ben Stiller made his directorial debut with the Winona Ryder film 'Reality Bites.' He is best known for films like 'There's Something About Mary,' 'Meet the Parents,' 'Dodgeball' and 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.' He is currently working on the much awaited sequel of 2001's 'Zoolander,' where he will serve as writer, producer, director and star. Derek Zoolander will return on February 12, 2016.
