Michael King, The Man Behind Oprah's Success Dies At 67

TV mogul Michael King dies at the age of 67 on May 29, 2015 in Los Angeles due to the complications brought by pneumonia. King's former family lawyer Robert V. Madden, told the New York Times that his death was because of a lingering infection.

He was known to be the man behind the success of TV host Oprah Winfrey and other household names in the industry of television today.

He and his brother Roger King,  also launched other shows to their fame. They worked for King World Productions making hit shows like Jeopardy, Dr. Phil and Wheel of Fortune, to name a few. It was back in the 1950s when their father, Charles King opened their TV production for business. They eventually decided to take over and run the whole business making history in the Television Industry.

When it comes to TV syndication, this is the name to recognize. He and his brother have built an empire since they started working for the company back in the 70s, producing talk shows and game shows. Their company was among the pioneers in the industry of independent production on Television.

Variety pointed out that it takes a keen eye to determine talent and skills and King had that knack ever since, casting brilliant show hosts like Oprah, Rachel Ray and Dr. Phil, and a bevy of other talents that TV viewers respect today. It is a belief that King made Oprah one of the highest paid celebrities in Hollywood and one of the most powerful female personalities in the world to date.

His company also is the production behind the popular news magazine Inside Edition.

His brother died ahead of him at the age of 63 in 2007. USA Today reported that Michael King was with his wife Jena and his two sons and two daughters when he passed on.
