Dating Apps Being Blamed For The Increase of HIV Cases

The number of people acquiring STD, HIV and AIDS these days are skyrocketing and dating apps are currently being blamed by the Department of Health in Rhode Island. Chicago Pride said that public health officials gave out a warning regarding dating apps that might jeopardize your health.

Tech Times pointed out that although these dating apps could be a huge factor just like the theory of the Department of Health, some researchers are opposing such observation. Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine's Brian Mustanski begs to disagree with this that he even wrote a paper back in 2007 saying that those people who met their partners offline are more likely to have riskier intercourse than online hook ups, which could then lead to STD cases.

People who are diagnosed with STDs have increased since 2013 in Rhode Island. Cases of syphilis are rising by 79%, while gonorrhea victims now went up to 30% and new HIV victims also rose to 33%. Officials also found out that young adults are often the ones being infected, which is why they seem to have found a connection related to these demographics and the dating apps that are now trending like Tinder and Grindr. These apps are known to initiate and encourage casual hook ups among people.

According to The Silver Link, it's not just the dating apps that are to blame on this rise of HIV and STD cases, but there are also factors that have lead to it such as when people don't use protection during intercourse and having different and random partners. Drugs and alcohol are also reasons behind the statistics of people getting infected by AIDS.

Utah is among the states in the US that is experiencing the same issue. But the government said that this on going threat to the health of people is not just to be addressed in Utah and Rhode Island, because the entire United States is already suffering from it.
