What Were the Big Announcements at E3's First Ever PC Gaming Show?

The PC is the most widely used gaming platform in the world apart from mobile, but it took until this year for it to get its own showcase at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. The inaugural show, sponsored by hardware developer AMD and PC Gamer magazine, offered a change of pace from the big CGI laden hype fests that characterize Microsoft and Sony's conferences. But the bloated running time and lack of 'WOW' announcements made it a mixed bag at best.

There was some legitimately exciting news at the show.

Gears of War co-creator Rod Ferguson took the stage to announce that the remastered Gears of War Ultimate Edition is making its way to PC. It will feature an assortment of PC specific graphical enhancements like 4K resolution, Unlimited Refresh Rates, and smooth 60 frames per second gameplay.

Gears of War's other co-creator Cliff Bleszinski, who has since left the franchise to start his own studio, gave a look at his new game currently titled 'Project Bluestreak.'

Other PC gaming stalwarts like Blizzard and Bohemia Interactive also graced the show some footage. Blizzard showed off upcoming content and events for their newly released MOBA game Heroes of the Storm while Bohemia showed off a new expansion for their shooter ARMA and promised that their Zombie survival game Day-Z would be receiving some much needed content updates.

The show however was lacking in any real major headlines and a lot of what was on display had already been shown earlier at previous conferences.

Fulbright Studios space station exploration game 'Tacoma' was already outed at Microsoft's show, while the much talked about procedural deep space explorer No Man's Sky had footage recycled from Sony's event.

Overall it was an admirable first effort for the PC community, but some tweaks will need to be made to the shows format if it wants to truly capture the hearts and minds of audiences.
