There is no question that Kenneth Branagh did an amazing job on the first 'Thor' movie. After all, Tom Hiddleston got his big break when the director cast him as Loki in the movie, which went on to make $449.3 million in the box office.
According to Heroic Hollywood's Umberto Gonzales, Marvel is interested in getting Branagh back to direct the last 'Thor' movie. In a Marvel discussion with Popcorn Talk, the insider talked about a rumor going around about 'Thor: Ragnarok.'
"I was hearing that Marvel wanted Kenneth Branagh back for Thor 3," Gonzales revealed. "But, he just got an offer to direct MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS at Fox. So, I don't know if it is going to happen or not. They're thinking about bringing him back into the fold."
However, Gonzales did stress that, "it's only a rumor, I don't know if it's even going to happen now, there wasn't a legitimate offer or anything."
The panel also discussed other rumors, including the delayed casting of Spider-man in 'Captain America: Civil War.' With Asa Butterfield out of the running, the spotlight has turned to the other actors who were brought to Atlanta for film testing.
According to Gonzalez, Marvel is interested in Charlie Plummer while Sony liked Tom Holland. He pointed out that the problem was casting a younger actor due to the restrictions of child labor laws and that the studios will be making a decision fairly soon to catch up on scheduling.
Branagh is best known for directing Shakespearean films like 'Henry V,' 'Much Ado about Nothing' and 'Hamlet.' He received several award nominations for Best Director and Best Supporting Actor for 'My Weekend with Marilyn.' Branagh's most recent projects were 2014's 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit' and 2015's 'Cinderella.'
'Thor: Ragnarok' is scheduled for release on November 3, 2017.
