Amy Schumer Tells Her Critics That She is Not Racist

Comic superstar Amy Schumer is weighing in on criticisms that claim her humor is 'racially insensitive'.

On Sunday, June 28, the "Inside Amy Schumer" star fired back at her critics who have accused her for racial insensitivity and for having a "blind spot for racism."

On Twitter, Schumer sent her message in response to one article that faulted her for being a "shockingly large blind spot around race", in which the post reads in reference to Schumer's hosting stint at the MTV Movie awards and her "crazy" jokes about Latina women.

"Put down your torches before reading this so you don't catch on fire," she wrote. "I am a comic. I am so glad more people are laughing at me and with me all of the sudden," accroding to Amy's intro to her full message on Twitter.

"I will joke about things you like and I will joke about things you aren't comfortable with." She went on saying, "I go in and out of playing irreverent idiot. That includes making dumb jokes involving race. I enjoy playing the girl who time to time says the dumbest thing possible, and playing with race is a thing we are not supposed to, which is what makes it so fun for comics."

Amy Schumer also added, "You can call it a blind spot for racism, but you are wrong. It is a joke and it is funny. I know that because people laugh at it. Even if you personally did not. I am not going to start joking about safe material."

Though the "Trainwreck" star didn't mention any name as to who she was exactly referring to, her message was likely referring to a post published by The Guardian, that reads "Schumer has a shockingly large blind spot around race," which also did not miss out pointing other jokes of Schumer on her show "Inside Amy Schumer" and from her usual stand-up comedy routine.

Aside from defending herself to the outside 'critics,' the superstar has also been engaged with a couple of Twitter users who have thrown the same opinions at her.

Amy Schumer's upcoming film "Trainwreck" is set to be released on July 17, 2015.
