Julia Roberts together with Nicole Kidman and Chiwetel Ejiofor will be the cast of the upcoming dramatic thriller 'Secret in Their Eyes'. Its a story about a woman played by 47 year old Julia Roberts, as the mother who discovers her daughter has been murdered and left in a dumpster.
Writer-director Billy Ray who earned an Oscar nomination for the Captain Phillips screenplay, stated, "It was just one of those scenes. You knew it was part of the reason she was doing the movie and yet it was something she was really dreading," Ray added, "She was going to have to go to a place that was going to be very painful."
The unnerving thriller 'Secret in Their Eyes' follows the circumstances Jess (Roberts), an FBI agent who wants to solve her daughter's crime.
Robert's colleagues were rattled by the crime, which sends Jess (Julia Roberts) and Ray (Chiwetel Ejiofor), on a desperate search to track down the killer. But Claire (Nicole Kidman) as their district attorney supervisor, tries to keep an eye on the detectives that they will not break the law during their operation.
The American version of Julia Roberts' 'Secret in Their Eyes' is based on the novel of Eduardo Sacheri. It is an adaptation of the Best Foreign Film Oscar winner from Argentina in 2009.
Director Billy Ray recalled that Roberts performed the emotionally demanding scene in just two takes saying,"It was completely staggering," Ray added, "Nobody on set could believe what was going on." "When it was over I went up to her and I just said, 'As a human being I can't ask you to do that again. I just can't.' And Julia Roberts said, 'You're a director. You're not supposed to be a human being.'"
'Secret in Their Eyes' is also the first movie that has co-starred Oscar winners Roberts and Kidman. Director Billy Ray said big stars are always wanted as long as they're great actors, but in the case of Julia and Nicole it is definitely a package deal. And the two distinguished actresses will play off of each other in the film, however, Roberts and Kidman showed enormous respect and great camaraderie to each other while filming.
