Donald Trump Miss USA: NBC Drops Pageant Over Racism Scandal, Reelz Channel Steps Up

Ever since the iconic billionaire launched his presidential bid for the Republican Party, it seems like he's been surrounded with controversy everywhere he goes, majorly after being followed by claims of racism towards Mexicans and Latinos in general, prompting NBC and Univision to drop their contracts to air Donald Trump's Miss USA.

In a rare spark of good news for the businessman as he tanks in the public's eye, Donald Trump's Miss USA pageant has now found a new home, as the Reelz Channel has officially picked up the show, airing later this month.

According to CNN Money, Reelz stepped in to buy the rights to air Donald Trump's Miss USA in an attempt to heighten its ratings, as it's a relatively small cable channel, which reportedly reaches 67 million homes within the spectrum of 100 million of those connected to cable within the United States.

E! Online reports that Reelz's explanation for picking up Donald Trump's Miss USA was that the executives responsible for the channel hold the belief that Miss USA, along with the ladies who compete for the spot of the most beautiful woman in the country, is an "integral part of the American tradition," prompting them to secure the rights.

"The decision on the part of REELZ to acquire the rights to the Miss USA Pageant was based on our belief that this special event, and the women who compete in it, are an integral part of American tradition," said Stan E. Hubbard, the CEO of Reelz. "As one of only a few independent networks, we decided to exercise our own voice and committed ourselves to bringing this pageant to American viewers everywhere."

However, NBC News reports that upon obtaining the rights to Donald Trump's Miss USA, the cable network didn't reference the aspiring politician and celebrity entrepreneur, prompting many to believe Reelz is trying to keep actual public display of partnership with Trump to a minimum, as he faces serious accusations of racism.

The 2015 edition of Donald Trump's Miss USA pageant will take place in Baton Rouge on Sunday July 12.
