Colonel Sanders 2015: KFC Bets All On Mascot As Chick-Fil-A Wins – Even Attending San Diego Comic-Con!

The iconic man who founded the fast food chain formerly known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, now simply KFC, has turned into the restaurant's mascot over the years, and the past couple of months have seen a massive effort to place Colonel Sanders in 2015, even hiring "SNL" alum Darrell Hammond to play the role.

The latest Colonel Sanders 2015 campaign comes as a desperate attempt to entice customers back to KFC, after the past couple of years have seen the Yum! Brands company fall in numbers in front of its largest competitor, Chick-Fil-A.

According to Market Place, between 2004 and 2014, KFC was forced to shut down over 1,100 stores within the United States, as Chick-Fil-A surpasses the chain in sales, prompting advertising changes to be made, most notably Colonel Sanders' 2015 reappearance in the media after years of absence, as the chain tries to make up for lost time

BuzzFeed's Vanessa Wong has stated that the strategy to bring Colonel Sanders to 2015 may be working, as KFC saw its same-store sales rise up 7 percent in the last quarter in the United States.

In the meantime, KFC has announced another unlikely appearance for Colonel Sanders in 2015: he'll be joining in cosplayers and superhero fans all over the world for the massive San Diego Comic-Con this July, and, as previously reported, this also means the release of an unlikely new product: an origin story comic book for the iconic mascot.

In a recent public release, KFC has also specified that they've teamed up with Cartoon Network's Adult Swim for SDCC, adding seven life-sized Colonel Sanders statues all over San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter for visitors of the city during this exciting weekend, and some of these will actually see the KFC founder in cosplay, wearing vampire, furry, unicorn and Martian attires, among others.

Could Colonel Sanders' 2015 reappearance be enough to save this traditional fast food chain?
