NBC brings back Xena with a Hunger Games Twist

'Xena:  Warrior Princess' starring Lucy Lawless ran from 1995 to 2001on NBC. News have it that the studio wants to reboot the leather-clad warrior, but with a Hunger Games kind of twist into it.

Right now, they are already searching for the next warrior princess. They want her to have the charisma and wit of Katniss Everdeen.  Perhaps the next Xena would not be fighting off outlaws, but fighting to survive. Or perhaps the Hunger Games twist would be on the rather dark feel of this blockbuster film.

The original warrior princess was played by Lucy Lawless, a native of New Zealand. The role was offered first to British actor, Vanessa Angel, but she was physically unable to meet the travel and location shoot demands of the series.  It was offered to four other actors, before it landed on Lucy Lawless' lap. At the young age of 21, Lawless won as 1989 Mrs. New Zealand.  'Xena:  Warrior Princess' was a spin-off of Hercules' Legendary Journeys. The series was mostly shot in New Zealand, where the scenery lent it its medieval fantasy feel.

The show was such a hit; it has also created comic book series, books, video games and even conventions.  In 2004, Xena won as one of Bravo's 100 Greatest TV Characters. It has also won various awards. In its initial season, it ranked 12th in the US. On its last year, it ranked no. 2.

Another good thing that came out of Xena is the marriage of the lead actor to the show's executive producer, Robert Tapert. They now have 2 sons, although Lawless has an older child, a daughter, from a previous relationship.

After Xena, Lawless continued appearing in various TV shows, movies, and even in Broadway. She is also a singer and performer who has sold her music and packed concerts.
