Chattanooga Shooter's Family Stated Abdulazeez Suffered From Depression

July 17, 2015, Chattanooga Tennessee: 4 US Marines and a sailor lost their lives due to a shootout that happened on that very date. The gun man was a 24 year old named Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez, who was an engineering graduate from the University of Tennessee. Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez fired random shots in the military recruiting center at a Chattanooga strip mall then drove to a local Navy operations support center and launched another attack killing 4 US marines and a sailor which later on resulted to his own death. No specific reasons were stated on why the shootout occurred but it was said that Abdulazzez suffered depression over the past few years as per International Business Times.

His family member wrote "There are no words to describe our shock, horror, and grief," and also added "The person who committed this horrible crime was not the son we knew and loved." One of his family members stated that "For many years, our son suffered from depression. It grieves us beyond belief to know that his pain found its expression in this heinous act of violence," these statements could be read at NPR.

Updates have been circulating regarding Abdulazzez's mental health condition pointing out his depression and his manic depressive - bipolar disorder. It was then stated in CNN that he's having a hard time keeping his job due to his mental health disorder and also stating the fact that he got hooked on "party drugs" and "marijuana" causing him to go through severe depression all throughout the years .

The family also admitted that he owned guns, which he wouldn't give up insisting that he's an adult. They also stated that they tried to reach out to him by putting him on a substance abuse treatment center in which he refused. The shootout still isn't linked to terrorism as of today.
