Ikea: To Sell Only LED Light-bulbs

Daily Mail reported that one of the biggest major retailers, IKEA, will be making a switch to LED technology in terms of their light bulbs. Ikea would be the first major global retailer to offer 100% LED lighting which would be rolled out by the end of September, the switch could help fight against global warming as LED lights use 85% less energy and it has a 25,000 hour lifetime per bulb; though it is more expensive than the regular fluorescent bulbs, LED light bulbs is a major step in fighting climate change.

As per The Guardian, Ikea's chief sustainability officer Steve Howard, stated that shoppers experienced a "price tag shock" with LED's three years ago, but then he stated that their quality and cost reached a tipping point which gave them a chance to switch. He then stated:

"If it's right for the customer, it'll be right for Ikea. If you can produce a product that can last 25-30 times longer and save you 85% of the energy and have fantastic light quality, then that's the right thing for the customer." Then adding: "If you can help customers save energy and help do something towards climate change, that's the right thing to do, we'll keep going with our direction regardless. But we recognize not every business is responding to climate change, so at a national level we need strong regulation."

Paris is making a switch as they'd do their part in going against climate change too, Howard then made a statement regarding their switch saying:

"Business can do a lot, but we need good policy frameworks from governments, so Paris is important,"

Ikea is willing to invest $1.13 billion on renewable energy and measures to help poorer countries to adjust to climate change; they also stated that they will generate all of the energy used in their shops and factory from Eco-friendly energy source by 2020.
